Legs & Co. - Caribbean Disco Show

Here's another of those medley-mixtures that seemed to clog up the charts in the early eighties: this time it's a mixture of calypso songs with other vaguely caribbean numbers, by Lobo: Caribbean Disco Show. Legs & Co. are in suitably tropical outfits, and they've got a giant Banana again - it's even bigger than the Supernsture one. Thanks to Bucksby for the clip.

Zoo Fotostar - I've Never Been To Me

From generous contributor PattiforPM, here's Zoo, the dance troupe create to replace Legs & Co in the early eighties, dancing to Charlene's kitschy ballad, I've Never Been To Me.

Update: A shy commentator* has pointed out that this isn't in fact Zoo at all: the dancers are credited as "Fotostar" in the end titles of this episode (Christmas Day 1982). Happily while I was confirming this, I found I had a higher quality version of the routine, which I've now posted.

Update 2: Doh! Jez has kindly pointed out that my previous update is wrong: Fotostar were robotic damcers appearing elsewhere in this show. This duo are, in fact called "Leo & Libra". Thanks Jez: I trust this settles the matter.

*So shy that they deleted their comment within minutes of posting. Thanks for the correction anyway, "KM".

Legs & Co. - Supernature

I posted a clip of Legs & Co. dancing to Cerrone's Supernature on Top of the Pops a while ago: but Amy has kindly sent me a new, much higher quality: here it is: with rosy-cheeked scientists, fur-bikini cavegirls, and Rosie's giant banana. Thanks Amy!

Updated update: Youtube messed up the clip, so I put it on Videobam: they've gotten creaky and slow of late, so I've switched to twitvid.

Connoisseurs pf terrible jokes, so cruelly deprived of Tony Blackburn's "wit" in my recent Pan's People post, will enjoy Noel Edmund's gag in his introduction. Everyone else: beware!

Legs & Co. - I Wish

Thanks to Bucksby, who has sent me this Legs & Co routine, one of the many posted on YouTube by nyrainbow4. Legs & Co. in drag, as Edwardian bankers, dancing to Stevie Wonder's I Wish. With a shadow background appearance, unmmistakably by Floyd.

Pan's People - Close To You

Don't panic: there's no sound for the first few secomds of this clip, so we don't get to hear Tony Blackburn's introduction. No doubt he was his usual braindead showbiz zombie self: look at the forced, fixed grins on the audience members around him.

Anyway, here are Pan's People auditioning to play the Bennett sisters in Pride & Prejudice, as they dance to The Carpenters' Close To You.

Thanks to Bucksby for sending the clip.

I've already posted a clip of Legs & Co dancing to The Birdie Song, but here's another featuring whichever out-of-work actors the Tweets record company had hired to wear the costumes that particular week.

Apology Update: I forgot to say thanks the generous PattiforPM, who sent me this clip.

Legs & Co. - Woman In Love

From Top of the Pops' Christmas 1980 Special, here's Legs & Co. dancing to Barbra Streisand's Woman In Love.

Hopefully this is demure enough to satisfy Rumbold and Peacock, those prudish old spoilsports.

Legs & Co - Living on an Island

Rumbold here: I've warned you all before about vulgarity and prurience creeping into this blog, and judging by recent posts. I'm going to have to intervene again. It's time for a healthy decent routine, and a Mr "PattiforPM"* has contributed this suitably educational clip. Here the girls are all dressed as historical Characters: Rosie appears first as Boudica, Queen of the Iceni Tribe and scourge of the Romans. Then Sue, whose character is the most difficult to identify. Assuming they're appearing in chronological order, I'd guess she's either Anne of Norway, queen of Scotland, or Mary I of England, daughter of Henry VIII. Lulu's next, and much easier: The Virgin Queen Herself, Elizabeth I of England (and Mary's half sister).

That's all the queens done: next is Gill: her early 19th Century clothes and lamp mean she must be Florence Nightingale, inventor of the pie chart. Patti appears as an aviatrix: but which one? As the whole point of the routine seems to be resolutely British, she must be Amy Johnson. Finally Pauline appears to bring us into the sixties: And as an executive in the garment retail industry myself, I must commend Flick for picking a clothes designer as our final heroine: she's clearly dressed as Mary Quant.

*I must say I have my doubts about the veracity of this name.

Zoo - House of the Rising Sun

Thanks to PattiforPM, who recently sent me this clip. As a looser, larger dance troupe, Zoo's configuration would vary to suite the song: sometimes a crowd, leading the dancing audience, sometimes a smaller group, like of previous TOTP troupes. Here's an example of the latter, with choreography in the Hot Gossip manner, i.e. more "sitting and walking about with attitude" than "dancing".

Legs & Co. - Starting Over

There's already a different routine performed to this song on the blog here. This is a completely different routines, performed behind semi-opaque screens, wearing robes which seemed to fly off on wires. I imagine six burly stage hands huffing and puffing somewhere in the background.

Pan's People - Wedding Bell Blues

Here are Pan's People in 1970, dancing to Fifth Dimension's Wedding Bell Blues, a song written by Laura Nyro. I'm afraid I could only find a low-quality version this fine old Pan's People routine. Thanks to katymissqueeniem who sent me a copy of this routine on Friday.
