Hot Gossip - Supernature

I posted a clip of Legs & Co. dancing to Cerrone's disco classic Supernature a few days back, and remarked that I always associated the record with Hot Gossip. Here's why: Hot Gossip on The Kenny Everett Video Show.

Here's a Legs & Co. routine that's new to me: dancing to Barry Manilow's Lonely Together. My thanks go to Amy for sending us this rare clip.

Legs & Co. - Silver Lady ...again

Another alternative routine: this time Legs & Co. dance again to David Soul's Silver Lady. I would imagine these are the outfits worn by female graduates of the Class of 1978 at the Time Lords' Academy on Gallifrey at their Graduation Ball. Or somethimg.

Great minds think alike: both PattiforPM and Lulupatti&sue sent me this clip. Many thanks to both.

Pan's People - Make It With You

Another soppy ballad performance from Pan's People: dancing to Bread's Make It With You, in very flimsy, sheer, slightly see-through silk. Mmmmm...

Legs & Co. - Supernature

Here's another contribution from lulupatti&sue: Legs & Co. dancing to Cerrone's Supernature. Starting out as lab technician dolls, they transform into Hollywood Cavegirls, with those rawhide & fur bikinis that all stone age women must have worn.

I've always associated this tune with Hot Gossip, since it was used so much on Kenny Everett's original Video Show; this performance is new to me. So thanks, lulupatti&sue.

Pan's People - Both Sides Now

Pan's People in groovy Laura Ashley frocks, dancing to Judy Collins' Both Sides Now on TOTP. A monochrome copy of a performance originally recorded in colour, so we don't know if those gogo boots they're wearing are the same flesh-coloured ones we saw in the Mama's Pearl clip.

Legs & Co. - Mah Na Mah Na

Youse guys don't really need me any more: Ryan ask for this clip a while ago: I didn't have it, but lulupatti&sue came to the rescue, and sent it in.

Sue gets to arse around in a silly Bigfoot Bumble Bee outfit, while the others dance in only slightly less silly flower costumes, with big petal headresses, and a huge kiss curl right in the middle of each girl's forehead.

Fair warning: before you press the play button, be aware that Piero Umiliani's Mah Na Mah Na is one of the catchiest tunes of the late twentieth century. Don't blame me if you're still humming it tomorrow.

many thanks to lulupatti&sue for the clip.

Pan's People - Nutbush City Limits

I received a message last week from lulupatti&sue, asking if I had a clip of Pan's People dancing to Ike & Tina Turner's Nutbush City Limits. At first I was fairly sure I didn't have it, but after rumaging around in my vast untidy collection, I found it – and here it is!

What a performance. Thanks for reminding me about it with your request, lulupatti&sue.

Legs & Co. - And The Beat Goes On 2

Legs & Co. occasionally had to perform more than one routine to the same song: sometimes a second routine for a Christmas special, sometime song that stayed in the charts for many weeks. We've already seen them dance one routine to the Whispers' And The Beat Goes On: here's another, courtesy of Patti4PM (thanks again).

Rapidshare link coming soon...

Legs & Co. - Everlasting Love

Get your sunglasses on folks. Here's Legs & Co. dancing to Andy Gibb's Everlasting Love, in front of a glittery, tinsely backdrop that makes your eyes (and whatever chip in your machine that handles video) scream in pain.

Thanks are due to the anonymous donor who sent me this clip via the easy widget at the bottom of this page. I'm always happy to receive your clips, and if I post them, I'll give a credit, if you've given a name.

Pan's People - Do You Wanna Dance

I've posted this before, but I've recently found the same clip on YouTube, so I'm using that a feeble excuse to repost it. Louise-period Pan's People, in colourful outfits, with what I think are strawberry patches on their bums, and those white-gold dancer's heels that they wear in a lot of performances around this time. Can you tell I've watched this many times? Can you blame me?

Yes, I've seen this clip a thousand times: but I've just seen something glaringly obvious that I never noticed before. If you don't want to spoil the fun, scroll up a bit and watch the clip before you read the next bit.

...

Okay, everybody watched the clip? Did you notice anything? In the audience? No? You didn't notice that there's a Womble in the audience? Yes, that's right: a five-foot Womble. Right there. Go on, watch it again.

...and if anyone did see it first time: how can you call yourself a Pan's People fan?

Update: embed video fixed (Thanks for spotting the fault, Ryan)

Zoo - Deutscher Girls

I mostly lost interest when Legs & Co were replaced by Zoo: they pretty much epitomised what was wrong with the early eighties. But they could occasionally produce a half decent routine, particularly when they reverted to PP/RF/L&C-style routines - like this one, performed to Adam & the Ants' Deutscher Girls, in lederhosen (or more likely ersatzlederhosen), from a TOTP2 repeat.

Legs & Co. - Check Out This Groove

Here's Legs & Co. on Top of the Pops, dancing to Bobby Thurston's Check Out This Groove. with a tiny bit of Steve Wright at the end. Unfortunately, a couple of the cameraman seem to have gotten stuck in the audience, so we keep getting close of shots of the girls from below. Which wouldn't be so bad except they are wearing revealingly tight, tiny, shiny metallic pants. Oh dear.

Thanks again to PattiforPM for this clip.

Legs & Co. - Starting Over

Time for another ludicrous costume clip. Here's Legs & Co paying tribute to the then-recently-deceased John Lennon in outfits which suggest that the BBC costume department were either (A) frantically overstretched or (B) just not trying. I can see that red dresses with white fur trim is a fairly christmas-ish look, but why have the fur dangling in strips? It looks like the girls are being attacked by a vicious gang of albino stoats.

Legs & Co - Gotta Lotta Bottle

You might have noticed that poverty recently forced me to shove some Google adverts on this blog. Not that the few pennies I'll get for selling out will make me rich. Anyway, here's a more positive side of advertising: an early eighties advert for milk, featuring a few precious seconds of Legs & Co in delightfully shiny black latex outfits.

Another generous donation from PattiforPM. Many thanks.

Zoo — O Superman

Here's another Zoo clip from Pan's Rugby Legs. Thanks again. My heart goes out to Flick Colby here: I'm a big fan of Laurie Anderson's O Superman, but I'd certainly not have a clue about creating a dance routine to go with such an outré record.

I don't think the routine really works, but I doubt anyone could do much better, given the short couple of days Flick must have had to devise this choreography, performed to such an obtuse piece of music

Zoo — I'll Find My Way Home

Sue Menhenick was the only dancer to be a member of four Top of the Pops dance groups: Starting in Pan's People in 1974, she went on to be a member of the short-lived Ruby Flipper in 1976: when they became Legs & Co. later that year, Sue joined the new dance group, staying until their last appearance in October 1981. Sue made her final appearance in December 1981, cradited as a member of replacement group Zoo, dancing solo to Jon & Vangelis' I'll Find My Way Home.

Pan's People - Space Oddity

Pan's People on To of the Pops, dancing to David Bowie's Space Oddity. Giving the lie to the usual lazy criticisms, this is refreshingly minimalist, non-literal choreography. With a silly fooling around introduction from The Hairy Cornflake and Mr. Stoke Mandeville himself.

The DCMA Stormtroopers have sent a nasty email to Blogger, so Ive had to remove the download link that was here. Harrumph.
